MEET YOUR NEW WORKHORSE

Money is complicated.
The tools shouldn’t be.

economics.horse is a small stable of useful calculators for everyday financial questions. Serious math. A little horseplay.

Why the horse?

Because a good calculator should be a workhorse: dependable, approachable, and ready when you need it. Also, economics.horse was too good a name to behave entirely seriously.

What this site does

It helps you explore a question using numbers you choose. How might savings grow? What could an extra loan payment change? Is the bigger grocery pack actually cheaper? The answer should come with context, not a fog of acronyms.

How the math works

Every calculation runs in your browser with a small, dependency-free JavaScript engine. Tools use the formulas shown on their pages. Schedules are computed at full floating-point precision and rounded only for display, except when a savings deposit is intentionally rounded up to the next currency minor unit.

Interest-rate conventions are stated per tool. The compound-interest tool accepts a nominal annual rate plus a compounding frequency. Savings goals, real returns, the little-spend calculator, and doubling time use effective annual rates. Loan interest is modeled monthly from a nominal annual rate.

The models reject invalid denominators, contradictory asset values, and unsupported numeric ranges instead of presenting misleading infinities. Extremely large outputs beyond 10¹⁸ are not supported. Actual statements can differ due to daily accrual, fees, taxes, timing, and rounding conventions.

What this site does not do

There are no live market prices, exchange rates, tax tables, historical inflation feeds, or personalized recommendations. Changing a currency changes the display only. An illustrative 7% rate is an input to a scenario—not a forecast, offer, guarantee, or recommendation.

These are educational estimates, not financial, investment, accounting, tax, or legal advice. Important real-world decisions deserve up-to-date terms and, where appropriate, qualified professional guidance. No calculator can model every risk or personal circumstance.

Made for coming back

Favorite a calculator, save a named scenario, and compare two or three versions of the same question in My stable. You can export CSV results, print your calculations, and export a local-data backup. Shared links contain the scenario inputs in the part of the URL after the # symbol; anyone with the link can read them.

No account. No tracking scripts.

The site includes no advertising trackers, third-party analytics, external fonts, or remote calculation APIs. Scenarios are saved only when you choose. Preferences and a short list of visited tool names are remembered locally. Hosting providers may still keep ordinary access logs. Read the privacy and local-data page for the full picture.
